Production
In 1990, Touchstone Television produced a television pilot based on the Touchstone Pictures feature Turner & Hooch, starring Thomas F. Wilson as Scott Turner and Beasley the Dog as Hooch. The pilot was not picked up for a series, but it was eventually televised as part of Disney’s The Magical World in July 1990. In December 2019, Matt Nix stated that a television series revival was in the works for the Disney+ streaming service, which was given a 12-episode order in February 2020; Josh Peck was cast as Scott Turner.
Lyndsy Fonseca and Carra Patterson joined the cast the following month, while Josh Levy was announced as a co-executive producer. Vanessa Lengies joins the cast on March 6. McG was named as the director and executive producer of the pilot in January 2021.
Casting
Anthony Ruivivar, Brandon Jay McLaren, and Jeremy Maguire joined the cast in main roles on September 22, 2020, the day production began, while Becca Tobin joined in a recurring role. Paul Campbell was recruited in the recurring role in January 2021.

Filming
Turner & Hooch was supposed to start filming on April 27, 2020, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Fonseca shot the series with Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star. Filming was postponed and resumed on September 22, 2020, with a planned completion date of April 19, 2021.
Marketing
On June 23, 2021, a trailer for the series was published.
Turner & Hooch Release
Turner & Hooch was originally set to premiere on Disney+ on July 16, 2021, with 12 episodes distributed weekly until October 1. However, following the popularity of Loki’s Wednesday release, Disney+ announced on June 16, 2021, that the majority of its original premieres will be moved to Wednesdays. Turner & Hooch was so released on July 21, 2021. On July 17, 2021, the Red Carpet Premiere took held in Los Angeles.
Turner & Hooch Reaction
The series has a 57 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 21 critic reviews with an average rating of 5.8/10. “Likeable but slight, Tuner & Hooch boasts a really lovely pooch, but those searching for more narrative meat may want to try a different bone,” the website’s critical consensus says. The film received a weighted average score of 49 out of 100 from 7 reviewers on Metacritic, signifying “mixed or mediocre reviews.”
The sitcom received a bad review from Hollywood Reporter Daniel Fienberg, who claimed, “Turner & Hooch is a forgettable, one-joke series, and I’m not complaining. It’s difficult to speculate on what else it may have been.” “Even if Hooch sits at attention like a good dog, after a few episodes of Turner & Hooch, it’s hard to share that patience or loyalty,” CNN’s Brian Lowry said of the show. “It pushes much too strongly into the cheesy aesthetic of those types of lighter plays, generating something too ridiculous and childlike for most people, yet likely too old-fashioned for their own children,” said Alan Sepinwall of Rolling Stone.
“Nothing feels dumbed down or muffled,” IGN’s Matt Fowler said of the episode, “yet the dog conundrum involving Hooch being foisted onto a reluctant owner feels like a dubious scenario now instead of a light-hearted romp.” “Dog-loving adolescents may love this program, which is quite moderate in most respects barring the violence,” said Ashley Moulton of Common Sense Media. “But many may roll their eyes at the clichéd dialogue and stories,” she said.
