Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans is a 2021 American computer-animated scientific fantasy film written by Marc Guggenheim and Dan and Kevin Hageman and directed by Johane Matte, Francisco Ruiz Velasco, and Andrew Schmidt (who also produced the film).
The film marks the conclusion of Guillermo del Toro’s Tales of Arcadia saga, which includes the television shows Trollhunters, 3Below, and Wizards.
The Guardians of Arcadia reconvene for the last time a year after the events of Wizards, as they face the evil Arcane Order, who have reawakened the primordial Titans.

Trollhunters, 3Below, and Wizards’ heroes have teamed up in their most epic quest yet, where they must battle the Arcane Order for possession of the magic that links them all.

The film was produced with a higher production budget than previous entries on the franchise. The filmmakers choose to start the film with a highway speed chase sequence as a way to showcase the higher budget and animation quality to the audience.

The film’s music was written by Jeff Danna and Scott Kirkland, who previously worked on 3Below and Wizards. Dana and Kirkland wrote new themes for the film, as well as using tunes from earlier Tales of Arcadia series.

Reaction
“Though overflowing with stakes, Netflix’s last cinematic episode of Guillermo del Toro’s Tales of Arcadia rationalizes rather than justifies its climax,” wrote Den of Geek in their review of Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans.
On Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregation website that only categorizes reviews as positive or negative, 88 percent of the eight reviews are favorable, with an average rating of 6.90/10. The audience, on the other hand, was divided, with many condemning the finale and stating it “ruined the franchise.” Many fans have attacked the series’ earlier season for its various inconsistencies and contradictions.
