The Punisher: Marvel changes the origins of the character
Marvel Comics has profoundly changed the origins of the character of the Punisher, in particular by giving him powers.
Marvel Comics makes major changes to the character of the Punisher until revamping his entire origin story in order to set up his new role as a major villain in the comic book universe.
Screenwriter Jason Aaron was the first to reshape the character. In the new comic book series Punisher (2022), Frank Castle has taken on the mantle of “King of Killers” of the cult of The Hand. Castle is notably endowed with the powers of the Beast, the god of murder.
A new origin story for Frank Castle
Indeed, in issue 3 of Punisher, we learn that Frank Castle started long before his career in the army. As a child, he wore a Captain America mask to take out a neighborhood mobster. The latter had beaten a couple to death in the street. Castle followed him to his home, set him on fire, and left him running the streets as he burned to death.
Now, in the Marvel Universe, the Punisher is a member of The Hand and the living avatar of murder.
If some of the fans say they are already disappointed with this new characterization of the character, others welcome Marvel’s choice.
