Shazam is the main character in the forthcoming American superhero film Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which is based on DC Comics. It is supposed to be the sequel to Shazam! (2019) and the fourteenth film in the DC Extended Universe, (DCEU) produced by New Line Cinema, DC Films, The Safran Company, and Mad Ghost Productions, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.  Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Djimon Hounsou, Rachel Zegler, Helen Mirren, and Lucy Liu feature in the film, which is directed by David F. Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023) Review

Shortly after the release of Shazam! in April 2019, a sequel was in the works, with Gayden returning as writer. Sandberg and Levi were also scheduled to return in December of that year. In August 2020, the title and the remainder of the returning cast were announced, with Zegler, Mirren, and Liu cast as Atlas’ daughters in early 2021. In May of that year, filming began in Atlanta, Georgia. Shazam! On June 2, 2023, Fury of the Gods will be released in the United States.

Following the success of Shazam! in April 2019, it was announced that Henry Gayden will return to write the sequel’s script. Producer Peter Safran and director David F. Sandberg were also slated to return. Michelle Borth, who played Mary Bromfield’s adult superhero form in the original film, later announced that she had signed a five-picture deal for the character and would be returning for at least one sequel later that month. In June, Zachary Levi stated that he will reprise his role as Shazam in the sequel, and that production would begin in mid-2020. Sandberg and many of the first film’s cast and crew were confirmed to return in December 2019, when New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures announced the sequel’s April 1, 2022 release date. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this was postponed from April until November 4, 2022. Marta Milans stated in June 2020 that she would repeat her role as Rosa Vásquez, the first film’s foster mother, and that production had been delayed due to the pandemic.
