Rings of Power vs House of the Dragon? Fans have already chosen their favorite
Rings of Power vs House of the Dragon.? In just a few weeks, the great duel of the fantasy series will begin. But we can have a winner right now…
The streaming war will soon enter the next phase – with dragons and wizards as the main weapons. As the various streaming services invest more and more in heavy flagship series, viewers can look forward to an epic fall. Netflix just released its ambitious adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “Sandman” and Disney+ entices with more grandiose Star Wars adventures in “Andor” in September.
But the real duel will be between HBO Max and Prime Video. A prequel to “The Lord of the Rings” vs a prequel to “Game of Thrones” – both have strong fan bases that look forward to revisiting their fantasy worlds, with cautious enthusiasm.
“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” and “House of the Dragon” premiere only a few weeks apart, but which of the series is really the most anticipated?
7 out of 10 are most looking forward to “The Rings of Power“
In a poll among MovieZine’s readers on Facebook, “Rings of Power” won big with 71 percent. It is the series that 7 out of 10 would rather watch this autumn, if they could only choose one.
“With some caution (knowing it might flop) I’m looking forward to The Lord of the Rings as I like the Silmarillion” writes Dimitri L.
“House of the Dragon looks more stable and I think it will be the better series of the two in the end, but I can’t help but be very excited for more Lord of the Rings stories. If Rings of Power lives up to its potential, it could be one of the biggest series ever, don’t think House of the Dragon can reach as high,” says Oliver A.
“Of course it’s fun to see what Prime comes up with with The Lord of the Rings,” comments David D.
“More Game of Thrones for the people!”
But GOT fans should not be underestimated. 29 percent of readers who respond would rather follow a new power struggle for the Iron Throne.
“House of the Dragon! More Game of Thrones for the people! Rings of Power doesn’t attract as much because the Hobbit films completely extinguished my interest in that world,” says Emeric C.
“Will still be House of the Dragon. Looks good much rather a “genuine” Thrones series, now hard to pin down, than a Ringen series that already seems to deviate from the source. Will of course see both, but think House of the Dragon will hold up better overall” – Robin S.
But isn’t the pep bigger than this?
However, it still sounds like the big hype has yet to arrive. We hear bad memories of “Game of Thrones” season eight and Peter Jackson’s “Hobbit” movies are making fans skeptical. Both series will need to start strong to convince discerning viewers.
“Not particularly hyped about any of them. The latest productions on both haven’t given much confidence,” says Johan M.
“I’m so crazy about both. “House of the Dragon” is supposed to be really good, but the aftertaste from the last GoT season is still so terribly strong, so I haven’t even watched a trailer… “The Lord of the Rings” are my favorite movies, so “Rings of Power” has a rather high uphill from the start. Will see both but actually don’t know which one I hope for the most,” writes Anton F.
“House of the Dragon” premieres on HBO Max on August 22. “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” premieres on Prime Video on September 2. Which series are you most looking forward to?
