Production
Walt Disney Pictures stated in April 2016 that it is producing a live-action rendition of the 1953 animated classic Peter Pan. David Lowery has agreed to helm the film, which he co-wrote with Toby Halbrooks. Previously, the two collaborated on the 2016 adaptation of Disney’s Pete’s Dragon. Jim Whitaker will act as the project’s producer.
Whitaker said in February 2018 that the script was in the early stages of development. He went on to say that the film will be based in truth while still being “a huge, roaring adventure.” By October of that year, the fourth draft of the script had been completed, and a fifth draft was in the works.
Lowery noted that “getting the script right is the number one concern.” The filmmaker went on to say that the project was personal to him since he is a fan of the original and that he has been “agonizing over every tiny detail.” He agreed that aspects of the modern-day version would need to be changed in order to avoid the racial prejudices prevalent in the original picture.
Lowery claimed in December 2019 that he and Halbrooks had written an extra “draft-and-a-half” at that time, adding that it would need “a couple more drafts to go” before it is ready to film. He characterized working on the picture as “difficult” because of his own affection for the original film as well as its popularity among fans. He also believes that he had to explain the film’s existence owing to the development of other live-action Peter Pan films, while also paying “respect to the original material.” The filmmaker remarked that he and the studio believe that “[i]f it has to be done, it needs to be done well.”
When comparing his work on Peter Pan to Pete’s Dragon, the director claimed that the latter was less stressful because the original was a “under-the-radar Disney title” with the minimal following, allowing him more creative flexibility. The film was officially named Peter Pan & Wendy by January 2020. As an additional producer, Joe Roth joined the film’s production crew.
Casting
In March 2020, Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson were rumored to have been cast as Peter Pan and Wendy Darling, respectively. By July of the same year, Jude Law had begun preliminary talks to play Captain James Hook. Tinker Bell will be played by Yara Shahidi in the film, which will be released in September. Alyssa Wapanatâhk was cast as Tiger Lily in October 2020. Jim Gaffigan joins the cast as Mr. Smee in January 2021. Alan Tudyk, Molly Parker, Joshua Pickering, and Jacobi Jupe were announced to play Mr. Darling, Mrs. Darling, John Darling, and Michael Darling, respectively, on March 16, 2021, as principal filming began.
Filming
The production of Peter Pan and Wendy will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia. It was supposed to start on April 17, 2020, and end in August 2020. However, owing to the COVID-19 epidemic, filming was postponed. Filming started on March 16, 2021, and was scheduled to end on June 30, 2021. Additional filming was conducted in August 2021 in Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada.

Release
The film was initially intended to be released on Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, and then theatrically, however owing to the COVID-19 epidemic, the film was officially confirmed to be released as a Disney+ exclusive again in December 2020. The film will be available on Disney+ in 2022.
Is Peter Pan coming out in 2021?
Peter Pan and Wendy will be released in December 2020 as part of The Walt Disney Company’s roster of direct-to-streaming films. Peter Pan & Wendy will be released in 2022, and the film, as well as the original animated Peter Pan, will be available on Disney+ at the time.
Does Peter Pan end up with Wendy?
Wendy and Peter reconnect in the sequel. Wendy is a married adult, while Peter is still a youngster. Nonetheless, they are thrilled to see each other, and they both realize how much they will always appreciate their youth, despite the fact that they chose separate paths.
Is Peter Pan going to Tom Holland?
The Disney+ original is directed by David Lowery and stars Tom Holland as Peter Pan, Yara Shahidi as Tinkerbell, and Jude Law as Captain Hook, with Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson portraying Peter and Wendy.
Does Wendy want to grow up in Peter Pan?
Wendy and I first met on her last night in the nursery. Her father, tired of her “childish” fantasies about Neverland and Peter Pan, has ordered her to mature. Wendy, like many youngsters, does not want to. She wishes to remain in the nursery and await the arrival of Peter Pan.
Why did Peter Pan chose Wendy over Tinkerbell?
“Before Peter Pan returned to Neverland, Wendy asked whether he would return, and Peter answered definitely because he wanted to hear her stories about him and the pirates.” He then returned to Neverland with Tinkerbell. “… Wendy can’t leave her family, and Peter can’t leave Neverland, so they just split up.”
