House of the Dragon: 7 dragons will make you forget those of Game of Thrones
The HBO series House of the Dragon will recount the famous period of the Dance of the Dragons, an event during which several factions will fight for the Iron Throne, through plots, betrayals and above all battles. Naturally, dragons will appear often in the HBO television series that will be shown on its HBO Max and OCS platforms. During the Comic-Con panel at the end of July, showrunner Ryan Condal made the following promise:“ They will have more dragons than they have ever had”.
17 DRAGONS IN TOTAL
Intriguingly, while there are about 20 dragons in total in George RR Martin’s books, it has been established that 17 dragons will feature in the series. Two days remain till the Game of Thrones spin-off debuts, and ideas about the upcoming war machines are already starting to circulate. One such theory involves Syrax, Rhaenyra Targaryen’s Beast. Here is a list of the most significant impending dragons.
#1 CARAXES (DAEMON TARGARYEN’S DRAGON)
Daemon is the prince of the Targaryens, a fiery and captivating warrior. He claims to be heir to the throne and is the younger brother of King Viserys and the son of Baelon and Alyssa Targaryen. Daemon, a legendary warrior and dragon rider, has the real blood of the dragon and will interfere in the fight of succession using his art of war.
One of the series’ key dragons, Caraxes, is depicted in this image. Given that its scales are red, it is known as the “Blood Wyrm.” Aemon Targaryen, Viserys II Targaryen’s younger son, first rode Caraxes; but, after Aemon was struck by a crossbow shot, Caraxes was left without a rider. Daemon, Aemon’s nephew, then took possession of the creature. He is one of the largest and oldest dragons in the Targaryen dynasty, thus he will undoubtedly have a tremendous presence on screen.
#2 SYRAX (DRAGON OF RHAENYRA TARGARYEN)
Rhaenyra, princess of House Targaryen, is none other than King Viserys I’s oldest child from his first marriage. The brutal struggle for this dynasty’s succession is at its center, with Rhaenyra having been named by the latter as the rightful successor to the throne. His half-brother Aegon, from the second marriage, opposes this claim.
Syrax, his dragon, will also be one of the main characters in the program.
Despite being smaller and less intimidating than Caraxes, Syrax is nevertheless highly powerful.
The hue of its scales is yellow.
#3 MELEYS (DRAGON OF RHAENYS TARGARYEN)
Rhaenys Targaryen, Aegon I’s wife, is the daughter of Aerion Targaryen and Valaena Velaryon. She was eventually overlooked in favor of her cousin Viserys after her father passed away in the year 92, earning her the moniker “the Queen that never was.” She rides the crimson red dragon Meleys, one of Westeros’s oldest and biggest, because she is a passionate dragon fan.
#4 VERMITHOR (HUGH THE HAMMER’S DRAGON)
Vermithor, a bronze dragon known as “the bronze fury,” will belong to Hugh the Hammer, a brutal and idiotic son of a blacksmith from Dragonstone, if Jaehaerys, King Viserys’ grandfather, rides him at the beginning of the Dance of the Dragons. As a result, the protagonist and his dragon ought to show up later in the show.
#5 SUNFYRE (AEGON TARGARYEN’S DRAGON)
The series’ most significant character is Aegon II Targaryen. Her dragon Sunfyre is a juvenile dragon with golden and pale pink coloring. Its flames are the same color as its shimmering golden scales.
#6 TESSARION (DAERON TARGARYEN’S DRAGON)
The female dragon Tessarion is ridden by Daeron Targaryen, Aegon’s younger brother. Tessarion is referred to as the “Blue Queen” because of her flames, which are cobalt blue in hue. The hue of its scales is bronze.
#7 VHAGAR (DRAGON OF AEMOND TARGARYEN)
Aemond rides Vhagar, one of the greatest dragons in Westeros that is bronze dragon-colored with blue-green accents, the third child and second son of King Viserys I Targaryen by his second wife, Alicent Hightower. Aemond is the brother of Aegon and Daeron. He was one of the major dragons that were employed in the invasion of the seven kingdoms.
