Gossip Girl is a Netflix adolescent drama series created by Joshua Safran and produced by HBO Max. It is a spin-off and independent sequel to the same-named CW television series, which is based on Cecily von Ziegesar’s novel series. Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, co-creators of the first series, are executive producers, as is Safran, who was an executive producer on the first season and also acts as showrunner.

HBO Max gave it a straight-to-series order in July 2019. Filming is set to begin in New York City in March 2020, but was postponed owing to the COVID-19 epidemic, and will instead take place in November 2020.

Kristen Bell reprises her role as “Gossip Girl,” an anonymous and omniscient blogger, as the series’ narrator. Jordan Alexander, Whitney Peak, Tavi Gevinson, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zión Moreno, and Savannah Lee Smith lead the ensemble cast.

On July 8, HBO Max broadcast Gossip Girl. The first season will include 12 episodes, divided into two parts of six episodes each, with the second half premiering in November 2021. The series got renewed for a second season in September 2021.

Gossip Girl (2021) Synopsis

A new cast of Manhattan private students takes the lead under the watchful eye of Gossip Girl, over a decade after the first series ended, revealing how dramatically social media – and the environment of New York City itself – has altered in the intervening years. Because of the HBO Max streaming service’s loose rules, Gossip Girl will have more explicit content than the original on The CW. With non-white leads and LGBT characters, the series is expected to be more diverse.

Executive producer and showrunner Joshua Safran confirmed that it is officially in the same universe as the original Gossip Girl series in terms of continuity. Rather than being a straight continuation of the tale, it is set in the same universe as the previous installments, where past characters can be freely referenced and potentially resurface, but it follows a different cast of people from a different perspective.
