Black Adam: Dwayne Johnson had his character removed from the film Shazam for this very specific reason
Shazam’s primary adversary is Black Adam, and his solo adventures will be released in theaters this fall. This is the “dark” incarnation of the DC superhero, whose successor the Sorcerer once desired because he believed his soul to be pure. I was out! He is as strong as Superman thanks to his Egyptian pantheon god powers, but he lacks Superman’s penchant for doing good. Therefore, it poses a serious threat. And his interpreter, Dwayne Johnson, just explained why he got his character taken out of Shazam! while the movie was being made.
A SHAZAM MOVIE! VERY DIFFERENT ORIGINALLY
Dwayne Johnson secured a deal to portray the character of Black Adam in the movie with Warner Bros. when the production of Shazam! started in 2014. You might wonder why the Fast and Furious and Jumanji sagas’ leading guy wasn’t there in Billy Batson’s early experiences. The actor, who agreed to an interview with our colleagues from Vanity Fair on this topic, provided us with the response.
When the original cut of the movie came to us, it combined the origin tales of Black Adam and Shazam into a one movie. That was the intended outcome at the time, so it wasn’t entirely unexpected. But as soon as I read it, I realized, “This is not how we can tell the narrative. We would be seriously harming Black Adam if we did so.” For Shazam, having two origin tales combined into one film would have been fantastic, but not for Black Adam.
Shazam! was therefore totally focused on the titular figure rather than being a movie with two leads who each received an equal amount of screen time. The magician who grants Billy Batson his magical abilities has barely mentioned that he once accidentally bestowed his talents to Black Adam. Dwayne Johnson’s anti-hero made a fleeting cameo but had nothing to do with the lead character he was initially cast in.
The Rock fought with Warner Bros. to get Black Adam out of Shazam!, modify the plot, and grant him a standalone movie—a choice he had given great thought to. Dwayne Johnson believed that the character required his own space, one that was necessarily darker than that of his foe, in order to fully realize his potential. He thus made the decision to advocate for the anti-future hero’s with Warner Bros. producers.
I dialed a number. I responded, “I must share my opinion with you. Everyone was thinking, “Hey, this screenplay is amazing, let’s make this movie. You’re not going to like it.” “. I answered, “I firmly believe that you should direct Shazam! and use any tone you see fit. And I believe that should also be separated.”
This led to his victory. Dwayne Johnson is one of the few celebrities who can take on Hollywood’s critics in this manner. A motivating viewpoint that sparked the creation of Black Adam, a thriller directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (who is also responsible for the thrillers Without Identity, Non-stop, and Night Run starring Liam Neeson). The Rock put a lot of effort into this movie, but it remains to be seen if DC Comics fans will enjoy it when they witness Black Adam’s escapades on the big screen on October 19, 2022. Shazam! will immediately follow it. The first instalment’s follow-up, The Rage of the Gods, will hit theaters on December 21. Two much anticipated full-length movies by followers of the DC Comics’ dark universe may hint at the reconciliation of two longtime foes!
