Aragorn and Galadriel can get their own movies
Popular “Lord of the Rings” characters may appear in new blockbusters and spin-offs, says Swedish Embracer, which bought the rights.
New movies based on “The Lord of the Rings” and JRR Tolkien’s fantasy characters could become reality. This is according to the Swedish Embracer Group, which recently acquired Middle-earth Enterprises – and thus also the rights to everything related to “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit”.
Embracer, which describes itself as “a global group of entrepreneur-driven companies in the gaming and entertainment industry”, writes in a press release that it leaves the door open for new stories about mythical heroes from Middle-earth:
“Among the possibilities are more films based on iconic characters such as Gandalf, Aragorn, Gollum, Galadriel, Eowyn and other characters from JRR Tolkien’s literary works.”
It also wants to “give fans the opportunity to explore the fictional world through merchandising and other experiences”, which also includes TV shows and games.
Next, we are waiting for Amazon’s insanely expensive series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power“, which takes place thousands of years before Peter Jackson’s films. Also in the works is the animated Warner Bros. film “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” with a premiere in 2024, and a new video game that will take us to Middle-earth .
