Production

In December 2020, it was announced that HBO Max was working on a remake of the original series, perhaps sans Kim Cattrall’s character, Samantha Jones. And Just Like That… was confirmed by HBO Max in January 2021 as a limited series revival consisting of 10 half-hour episodes. Samantha Irby, Rachna Fruchbom, Keli Goff, Julie Rottenberg, and Elisa Zuritsky joined the writing team for the limited series in February 2021. Executive producers will also include Rotternberg and Zuritsky. Patricia Field, the long-time costume designer, and partner on the series will not be returning to work on the revival.

She did, however, refer Molly Rogers, a friend, and colleague, to the creative team for assistance. The first episode of the series is set to air in the fall of 2021.

Casting

Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis will reprise their roles as a result of the limited series order. Sara Ramirez was cast as a series regular in May 2021, while Chris Noth was cast in an unknown position to reprise his role. Mario Cantone, Willie Garson, David Eigenberg, and Evan Handler all joined the cast on June 9, 2021, in unknown positions, to reprise their individual roles.

Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman, and Isaac Cole Powell were cast in leading parts in July 2021, while Alexa Swinton, Cree Cicchino, Niall Cunningham, and Cathy Ang were cast in unknown roles, and Brenda Vaccaro and Ivan Hernandez were cast in recurring roles. Julie Halston was cast in a guest-starring role in August 2021, while Christopher Jackson and LeRoy McClain were cast in recurring roles. Garson, who played Stanford Blatch in the series, died three months after his comeback, making it a posthumous appearance.

Filming

In June 2021, production began in New York City. On June 11, 2021, the first table read took place at the show’s New York City studio.
